The gearbox is the highest-impact tuning menu in CPM 2. You'll find it under Garage → Car Upgrade → Gearbox, with a final drive setting and 7 gears to adjust.

The one concept that matters

Final drive is the master setting. Everything else fine-tunes around it:

  • Lower final drive → higher top speed, slower acceleration
  • Higher final drive → more torque and acceleration, lower top speed

Tune final drive first, then trim individual gears.

Settings by discipline

| Discipline | Ratios | Why | | --- | --- | --- | | Drag | Short 1st/2nd gears | Launch and 60 ft times win bracket races | | Drift | Low final drive, short ratios | Keeps the engine in boost while sliding | | Circuit | Longer ratios | Fewer shifts, higher speed down straights | | Off-road | Short ratios everywhere | Torque and control on loose surfaces |

Testing method

  1. Change one setting at a time.
  2. Test on the highway for top-speed runs and the drag strip for launches.
  3. Use the Dyno Run feature to measure power changes after upgrades.
  4. Re-check after any engine swap — a new engine changes the ideal ratios.

Beginner tips

  • Cars under ~1,500 kg respond more predictably while you learn.
  • Upgrade in this order before touching ratios: ECU/turbo → sport tires → gearbox/clutch.
  • Warm your tires before judging launch grip.

FAQ

What does final drive do in CPM 2?

Final drive is the master gear ratio. A lower final drive favors top speed; a higher final drive favors torque and acceleration. Tune it first, then individual gears.

What gearbox settings are best for drag racing?

Short (high) ratios on 1st and 2nd gear for launch and early acceleration, with the final drive set for your target class and strip length.
